School English Language Support Threatened

School English Language Support Threatened The OE Blog In a further blow to the education system, the government is considering changing the rules on the budget for extra English support given to pupils in state schools. At present a sixth of all state school pupils in English do not speak English as their first language, yet the government is considering limiting the amount of time for which they are entitled to extra help to support their language learning at school. The proposals, like so many other blows to the school system under the new funding regime, are not clear -cut, and have not yet been approved. The funding for the language support scheme would not be withdrawn, but rather it would be time-limited, with proposals to allow each pupil only 3-5 years support being considered. Yet it is clear that whilst this may be adequate for some pupils, others, particularly those from completely non-English backgrounds, desperately need more help to take on a completely new language. Furthermore, it is surely short-sighted of the government to believe that cutting back on funding for these students would be of financial benefit, as it will surely have a hugely detrimental impact on the contribution they are able to make to the economy later on. In April this year, the funding for the scheme was already merged to form part of the school budget as a whole, rather than being ‘ring-fenced’ to be used specifically for language support. Just like the recent withdrawal of specific funding for one-to-one tuition with needy pupils, absorbing the funding into the general school budget is a way for the government to claim the resource has not been cut. But the sad truth is that with enormous education cuts and budgets being slashed, school heads are forced to divert all funds into the most desperately needed areas, meaning that these resources will effectively be lost. Like so many of the recent government changes to the education budget, whilst these cuts are not overtly directed at pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, the distribution of pupils from minority backgrounds is such that it will inevitably have by far the highest impact on the poorest students. Just at a time when tuition fees are rocketing to £9000, when vital schemes like Aim Higher are losing their funding, and when the Education Maintenance Allowance has been slashed, to deny pupils the support they need to gain a solid grasp of the English language could be the final nail in the coffin for many students from the most disadvantaged backgrounds.

Roman Gladiators Essay - 976 Words

Gladiator Gladiatorial events were a token of the Roman civilization. A brutal form of sacrifice adapted from the earlier civilization of Etruscans, who believed when a person dies, his spirit relies on a blood sacrifice to survive in the afterlife. The first event to take place in Rome was in 264 BC, when Decimus Brutus held a sacrifice to honor his dead father (Roman Gladiator). Soon after these events became an undeniable part of the Romans lives, used for political power and general entertainment. A gladiators life was far from easy. On one hand they were considered slaves, thats the lowest class in a social structure, but on the other hand, some gained popularity and were looked upon as great warriors and heroes. Some rose to celebrity status in a short time as in the movie when Maximus became a hero to the public eye, worthy of praise of greater importance than even the king himself. In the movie this was a direct result in the downfall of Commodus, but this isnt factual, as Maximus is a fictional character. It just demonstrates the influence the Gladiators had on the public eye, he was the ‘Rockstar of the Roman Empire. Ethical Issue Example

Essays on Ethical Issue Essay Ethical Issues Order No. 557948 Introduction Ethics, especially in the arena of business can be defined as the ‘critical, structured examination’ of the behavior of individuals in the world of commerce. Such behavior entails laying constraints on personal interests and working for the good of the organization. However, sometimes when people try to act ethically by doing the right thing, certain consequences become hindrances and hence make it very difficult for them to decide and follow their good instincts. In lieu of such a scenario, the Institute of Management Accounts (IMA) has developed certain ethical standards to help management accountants meet these nagging challenges. The chief premise of the IMA standards is a constant reminder that society expects the highest level of ethical behavior from professional accountants. Charles T. Horngren, Walter T. Harrison Jr. and M. Suzanne Oliver  in their book on Accounting (8th edition) explains the necessity for students to put into good use all that they study within the walls of the classroom. The authors shed light on the experiences of students when it comes to making use of what they learn in class. They explain how students are enlightened when a problem is discussed and solved in class but when they have to solve problems for homework, they fail to do so. To beat this problem the authors have come up with a brilliant combination of study resources, online home-work system and as well as clearly explained textbook features to enable students to understand and put into practice all that they had learned. This Accounting book by Charles T. Horngren, Walter T. Harrison Jr. and M. Suzanne Oliver  is a very clear step-by- step guide on how to solve the different accounting problems because many examples are given. In Chapter 15 we have the ethical framework of the IMA which I will use to respond to the ethical issues in the four requirements given below. 1. What is the Ethical issue? The ethical issue in this case is that Becky who previously worked as controller for a small car firm is now employed in a bigger car firm in the same post. She comes to understand that her employer was using unfair means of bribing the manufacturer’s sales persons in order to get the maximum number of cars for sale. 2. What are my options? One option would be that the behind the scenes activity of gifting Rolex watches to the sales persons be brought to light with the higher authorities. The other option could be that the person in charge, Franz Mueller be directly questioned. The other option would be is to remain a dumb spectator. 3. What are the possible consequences? In case of making use of options 1 and 2, the consequences could result in losing my job which is a good one. If the last option of being a passive spectator is used, then the consequences are that the same act would continue to take place and the company would lose a lot. 4. What shall I do? Ethically speaking, I would go with either option 1 or 2 and expose the activity of Franz Mueller, even at the cost of losing my job. House Keeping essay Free Essays

In House Keeping by Marilynne Robinson, the author uses feminist criticism to demonstrate the social construction of a family household that goes against the patriarchal structure or norm of a household. In the novel the main character of Ruthie is telling the story of her and her sister Lucille living at her grandma’s house in Finger bone, Idaho after her mom’s suicide. Right at the start it begins with the death of her grandfather due to a train wreck, then her mother happens to kill herself shortly after going over a cliff after dropping them off at grandma’s. We will write a custom essay sample on House Keeping essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now The story takes place in the 1950s and early 1960s and is told from first person point of view. After both of the girls’ mother’s death, the grandma Sylvia becomes their guardian, but eventually becomes ill and dies as well. Their grandmother was prepared for her death and made sure someone would watch over Ruth and Lucille after she was gone. Nona and Miss Royce are introduced in the story and become the girls’ guardians until they no longer feel they can take care of them and send a letter to Sylvie, the girls’ eccentric and unbalanced aunt to come watch them. Sylvie comes to watch over her nieces and then the household begins to become somewhat chaotic. Ruth bonds well with Sylvie because she is free-spirited, but Lucille, on the other hand, yearns for stability in the household. Lucille wants the household to consist of the normal family viewed in society. Lucille finds refugee in her economics teacher and decides to go live with her, leaving Ruth and Sylvie alone. Shortly, Ruth’s safety is questioned by the courts because of the way Sylvie and her are living. They are both isolated from the outside world alone and without a man as the one in charge. Eventually, Sylvie decides to leave Finger bone, Idaho and live on the road again and Ruth decides to go with her. Throughout the novel Ruth and Lucille face several abandonments as they grow up, but still have a home in which housekeeping is done and where a family is created. It may not be the usual household structure but it is a home in which the girls can come to at the end of the day. According to the CBIL, feminist literature also uses a range of different strategies such as psychological strategies that help understand feminist issues better. Ruth does not mind living in the condition they have been with Sylvie, but Lucille eventually gets tired of it because she feels she will not be accepted in the society that seems normal to her, â€Å"I was content with Sylvie, so it was a surprise to me when I realized that Lucille had begun to regard other people with the calm, horizontal look of settled purpose with which, from a slowly sinking boat, she might have regarded a not-too-distant shore† (92). Robinson uses feminism criticism to demonstrate that a home can be created without any male role or the typical normal family. In this home only women have lived in after the grandfather’s death and they have sustained the house together over the years a way or another. When Ruth and Lucille slept out of the house in the woods, Lucille seeked attention from Sylvie because she felt Sylvie did not put any house rules and it bothered her because she felt she did not have a home when in reality she did, â€Å" She had put two folded quilts on the wood box behind the stove. She wrapped one of them around Lucille and one around me, and we sat down† (118). Their home was not the regular home but it was because Sylvie would keep them comforted and warm, she showed them love. Robinson adds details like these to the novel to demonstrate that even alone a woman can create a home for two children. Through feminism criticism the young girls also act as a symbol of strength in the novel because so much has happened to them over the years. They have lost everyone who has come into their lives one at a time. The girls are seen as independent, always on their own and taking care of themselves. They look forward to the future and what lies ahead even though their lives have been filled with death and abandonment. Robinson uses Ruth and Lucille as role models to other women who have dealt with similar events. The girls stick together, but eventually separate also signifying that they make their own life decisions without any male telling them what to do. This novel sets a setting in which no men are present, which was uncommon at the time the story takes place. Men were freer to travel, and roam around, unlike women in which they stayed at home with their children. A man-less household was far from uncommon, and in the novel Robinson only chose women as the main characters who lived alone. She created only women relationships to demonstrate that women were capable of coexisting with one another without a male. According to the CBIL, feminist critics use images of women to reflect the patriarchal structure by writing literature to achieve equality with men (1548). Robinson chose her protagonist to be the voice of a single woman, a woman in in her 20s looking back on her childhood and reflecting on it, â€Å"My name is Ruth. I grew up with my younger sister, Lucille, under the care of my grandmother, Mrs. Sylvia Foster, and when she died, of her sisters in law†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (3). Ruth’s character dictates the cast and the setting of the story. As Ruth re-enters her childhood, her concerns becomes those of a fatherless girl abandoned by her mother, or in her case a mother who committed suicide to escape her problems in life, â€Å"She thanked them, gave them her purse, rolled down the rear windows, started the car, turned the wheel as far to the right as it would go, and roared swerving and sliding across the meadow until she sailed off the edge of the cliff† (23). Ruth in the novel has the choice to choose a mother figure in place of the one she has already lost. Ruth begins to bond well with her aunt Sylvie and Sylvie becomes that mother figure for Ruth as it shows that there is no male heroism in the novel, but rather a female hero. The wilderness becomes part of the feminist criticism as Robinson centers the novel on the lake, and the characters spend frequent time in the woods. By putting a female in the lead role, Robinson goes against tradition. In â€Å"Laugh of the Medusa†, Helene is tired of seeing a man’s role in society in which the man tells the woman what to do. She wants women to give themselves their right place in society and become liberated from the restraint, therefore, Robinson like Helene, writes about feminine literature about women and decisions they have to make in a society where usually men made the decisions. The title of the novel is a big deal when viewing the novel through a feminist approach. â€Å"Housekeeping† in our culture signifies a clean household. In the household women take a major role as they are the ones who clean, maintain the home, and stay at home with the kids. The house in the novel portrays a symbolic icon for female cultural existence, yet it is ruined in the novel. Sylvie does not keep the house like a culturally standard female would especially in the 1950s where women did not really work or have much to do. Sylvie keeps the house messy and does not act as a suitable mother would in society, â€Å"Yet this was the time that leaves began to gather in the corners. They were leaves that had been through the winter, some of them worn to a net of veins. † Yet, according to â€Å"Laugh of the Medusa† the best of a woman can only be given from another woman and Sylvie demonstrates the mark she leaves behind in society and the lesson she is teaching the girls about change and subversion against patriarchy. Housekeeping demonstrates that women are no longer the typical housewives and how society must accept that change. Society must move beyond conventional social patterns and the ideal image of a woman. Robinson changes literature into feminist literature to change the perception of women. In Housekeeping, Ruth, Lucille, and Sylvie portray women who have to make life decisions because of their different lifestyle that goes against the stereotypical household norm. Ruth being the protagonist is portrayed as the main hero because she faces several events in which she faces hard decisions and makes them, even though society is against the choices and lifestyle she is living. Surf by The Social Experiment free essay sample

In 2014, up and coming hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper declared to his fans that his newest album, Surf, would be coming out by the end of the year. Besides the occasional singles he would release with his newest band, the Social Experiment, there has been nothing from Chance the Rapper lately. While many fans of Chance the Rapper were expecting and hoping for a third solo album, after 10 Day and Acid Rap, Chance has revealed the true core of Surf, and what it means. Through a cover page article in the magazine The Fader, the rapper from Chicago has revealed that Surf isn’t a solo album, but a collective album from the band the Social Experiment, in which Chance is but another member of the band. The Social Experiment formed how most bands formed, except they aren’t exactly a band. Better described as a music â€Å"group†, Social Experiment consists of Chance on vocals, Donnie Trumpet playing the trumpet, and a few other members. We will write a custom essay sample on Surf by The Social Experiment or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Originally starting out as a tour for Chance and his friends, the Social Experiment developed into a group of friends recording music that they love, and it has evolved into a full-blown group that they nicknamed SoX. They have put out a total of 12 singles so far, and it has sculpted the group in a much different direction than the previous Acid Rap of Chance the Rapper. The group seems to be more focused on complex, deep songs infusing the jazz style of Donnie’s trumpet. The group has put out two videos so far, both showing a little more insight on the inner workings of the Social Experiment. Their first video, SoX Day, shows what a normal day in the life of a Social Experiment member would be like. Filmed by aspiring young filmmaker Austin Vehery, the film does an outstanding job of documenting Social Experiment. While this video was fairly straightforward, the second video, Nothing Came to Me, is much more confusing. It came out of nowhere, with Chance releasing it via Tw itter. It features famous model Cara Delevingne, which further confused fans of the Social Experiment. The video seems to make no sense, and being an experience unable to be conveyed in words, it shows the true skill of Chance and his friends. In an interview with the Breakfast Club, a popular radio talk show, Donnie and Chance explain the meaning of the name Surf. â€Å"Surf started off as a play on the surf culture of California, and how we wanted that growing up in Chicago† Donnie explained. â€Å"I guess we were also making a lot of wavy music at the time, so it made the name even more fitting†. Minutes later, Chance explained that the Social Experiment started out as a play on the fact that there will be so many â€Å"guest appearances† on the album, without the artist’s name in the title. This provides for an immersive listening experience, that the entirety of the band is hoping for. After all of the buildup, on May 28th, Chance the Rapper and the Social Experiment released Surf as the first completely free album on the iTunes store. While many are skeptical of the strange styles presented in Surf, others, including myself, accept the style with open arms. The album itself is described beautifully by Chance, when he says that â€Å"it’s the kind of album you have to listen to all the way through, and not just pick out a few songs.† This kind of immersion is exactly what the group was hoping for. However, some fan favorites include the songs Windows, Slip Slide, and Sunday Candy. The album has a multitude of different artists who appear on the album, including Busta Rhymes, Big Sean, and J Cole. The album, while meeting all of the standards and expectations of the Social Experiment itself, many fans were disappointed with the drastic change in style that Surf is. This has caused many listeners to be reluctant when listening to Surf. Most fans of Chance the Rapper were expecting a third solo album, which Surf is v ery far from. In total, Surf is an extremely different and unique album. It is unlike one that has ever been seen before, let alone from the Social Experiment. I can personally reccomend the album to everyone, as it will not be a disappointment.

Choosing an Import Agent

Choosing an Import Agent Free Online Research Papers In exporting, an agent overseas might be a company or partnership or an individual working on a self-employed basis. The agent agrees to try to win orders for you (the principal, i.e. the would-be exporter), and pass such orders on to you for possible acceptance, without the agent taking title to the goods. That’s how the word agent is used narrowly, but it’s also used in a wider sense to include some intermediaries who do buy and sell on their own account. Thus, there are several different types of agent in international trade. As an assessor for the professional body The Institute Of Export IOE International Trade www.export.org.uk I have set questions regarding various aspects of import agents; and this essay looks at the different types of possible agent overseas; the qualifications such an agent should have; steps involved in choosing such an agent; and the ways in which a principal and its overseas agents (once appointed) should help each other. In this essay, I’ll use UK English (e.g. stock) rather than, say, US (inventory). This is no criticism of any particular variety of English: I have enjoyed living and working in the US for two years, but I am more familiar with UK English. What are the different types of agent overseas? A commission agent does not hold stock, apart perhaps from samples. An agent del credere is a commission agent who bears the credit risk (that is to say, the risk of the importer not paying). A stocking agent is a commission agent who holds stock, without buying on her/his own account. A distributor has preferential rights to buy and sell specified products in a specific territory. A stockist is a distributor but one who generally receives greater reward because s/he undertakes to carry a specified level of stock. Distributors/stockists usually operate on their own account, so they risk making losses. Any of these agents/distributors/stockists might also agree to offer and provide after-sales service. What qualifications/qualities should an import agent possess? An import agent very probably needs to have the following positive qualifications/qualities: local knowledge and contacts; marketing ability; product/service enthusiasm; and the disposition to learn, and update her/himself; the resources to cover the entire proposed territory (sales; and, if agreed, after-sales); the official (and, if relevant, minority) language(s) of the importing country, and preferably the principal’s language also; plus solvency, probity, and good health. If the agency is a company as opposed to an individual, there is somewhat less chance of business being interrupted through illness, accidents, or death. An agent probably also needs to have the following negative qualifications/qualities: NOT represent too many other principals (i.e. the potential agent should NOT be a so-called agency collector); and NOT hold conflicting agencies, although complementary agencies are often very useful, e.g. let’s say you manufacture cutlery (knives, forks, etc), and the prospective agent might already represent manufacturers of crockery (bowls, dinner plates, cup, saucers, etc), and glassware, for example, but NOT cutlery. Having generated a list of potential agents, one should take the following steps: make a short-list; obtain status/credit reports (from a bank and/or a credit-vetting agency); if possible, make a personal visit to see the potential agents and their organisations; preferably bring one or two of the potential agents over to see your operations; and, if things look favourable, move towards written agreement. How can you help each other? Well, even if it is not made explicit in the written agreement, there needs to be good two-way traffic between principal and agent in all relevant information (within reasonable bounds of commercial sensitivity). From the agents side, changes in, for example, import regulations, customs duties, quotas, exchange controls, competition, social/market/marketing trends, technical standards, and trademark and service-mark regulations. From the principals side, development plans for production capacity and new products and services, and any expected delivery problems. Additionally, holding conferences for agents from various territories can be useful, as can the (e-)mailing of company newsletters. In certain circumstances and subject to appropriate safeguards, the principal might be prepared to consider providing loans to the agent, possibly even on lenient terms. To conclude, no exporter should leave everything to the agent: the exporter (and not just the agent) should participate in trade fairs and exhibitions in the target market, and periodically visit the premises of customers and potential customers. Week 6 disc Tchaikovsky Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Week 6 disc Tchaikovsky - Assignment Example Apart from the sound of the fire cannons, there are also sounds of what appears to be fireworks, usually used to exhibit a celebratory mood. Probably one of the reasons why Tchaikovsky’s compositions have continued in popularity in the contemporary society is that is it portrays the themes of war that were experienced in the early 1800’s: His compositions i.e. the 1812 Overture exhibits both sadness and joy that were associated with the war. Perhaps, his compositions have continued to gain popularity owing to the fact that they remind the contemporary populace the history of war. Currently, â€Å"Only in America†, a song that was composed by Brooks and Dunn in 2004, just before the 9/11 terrorist attack, has been considered one of the most nationalistic and patriotic songs in the contemporary world. Its popularity can also be attributed to the fact that it was used during the re-election of George W. Bush during this

Incident Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Incident - Essay Example In this experience the poet smiles at another boy when their eyes meet. In response the boy insults the poet and regards him as nigger. The author states that out of all his memories of Baltimore, this incident always remained in his memory. The poem is one of the best poems that I have come across regarding the issue of racism in United States. This poem reinstates the idea that racism is deeply embedded amongst every individual. This is because all individuals are brought up to be racist. This poem helps in identifying the main cause of racism which is the values that a child receives from his/her parents. The poem titled as Incident has been authored by Countee Cullen and in this poem the poet focuses on an event of racism that he experienced in the region of Baltimore. The poet states that one of the main causes of racism in America is the values that are transferred by parents to their children and children become racist at a very tender

Overview of The First Red Scare :: essays research papers

In the early part of the twentieth century, Americans feared and fought against the principles of the Bolsheviks. Few Americans today even know what the â€Å"Red Scare† was, let alone fear these ideas. However, many of the basic Bolshevik ideas are alive and well in the United States. Citizens of the United States are beginning to accept and even believe in many principles that the Bolshevik Revolution was all about, including eminent domain, loss of freedom of speech, loss of privacy, and income redistribution in the form of very high tax rates. The textbook years for the Red Scare were from 1917 to 1920, but there were important events before 1917 that preceded the Bolshevik Revolution. â€Å"The first â€Å"reds† were those Americans who supported the French Revolution at the end of the eighteenth century.† (Hoyt, 11) The first Marxian socialists to come to the United States were German immigrants who began arriving in 1848. They slowly began to change the labor organization, and over a few years the Socialist and Communist parties were born. In 1901, all Americans were made aware of left-wing radicalism after an anarchist named Leon Czolgosz assassinated President William McKinley. â€Å"No more was needed to make Americans fear and hate the very words â€Å"anarchist,† â€Å"radical,† â€Å"red† and â€Å"socialist,† all of which they lumped together†. (Hoyt, 13) All of these events culminated in creating a certain fear in Americans from these groups. The climax of the fear of radicals, and the start of the Red Scare was when in November 1917, when the Russian Revolution took place. Earlier that year, there were only 11,060 Bolsheviks in Russia, yet five months later they managed to seize power. When American began to understand this concept, they were all struck with fear. Americans did not want to go back to a controlling government that they had just escaped by coming to America. The Red Scare began because of several bombs that were mailed to many people. These bombs were constructed so that when the person receiving the bomb opens their package, they will be greatly injured, or killed. There were about thirty bombs sent through the mail, and only about five were actually opened. These bombs were addressed to important people like John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, commissioners of immigration and many others. Bombs were the physical scare to people, but inside, Americans were â€Å"nervous that reds could get into the government and control the people.

Social learning approach

Personality can be defined as a hypothetical concept that constitute those relatively stable and enduring aspects of an individual which distinguishes them from other people making them unique, but which at the same time permit a comparison between individual. There are various approaches that conceptualize personality. These are; the psychoanalytic perspective, the trait theory, behaviorist (learning) theory, humanistic theories cognitive and biological approaches. This paper however will explore the behavioral and social learning theory approaches to personality. The focus will be in comparing and contrasting them and relating them to a personal personality disorder. The social learning theory is an approach that argues that we learn through imitation, modeling, and observation of other people behavior. If we observe a good behavior from other people, we are likely to behave well but if we observe bad behavior from them we behave badly. Albert Bandura is considered a major proponent of this theory. This approach also considers the environmental factors claiming they reinforce modeling. An individual can be reinforced directly by a model for example; a student can dress like other to fit in their group. A third person can also reinforce modeling. for example; a teacher may praise a certain student making the others to model him. It is also possible to imitate the behavior itself. For example; a student may play football during his leisure time influencing another to model the behavior. Social learning theory argues that reinforcement and punishment are necessary in learning. They influence the level at which a person demonstrates a learnt behavior. They argue that moral judgment concerning the right or wrong is modeled. Bandura outlined from major condition for modeling to occur; paying attention, remembering, ability to replicate, and motivation. Modeling leads to acquisition of new behavior, affects the frequency of embarking a learner behavior, encourages a fo rbidden behavior and increases the frequency of a similar behavior. They emphasize of self regulation in personality development. For example; setting own goals, self observation, self judgment and self reaction (Ormrod, J. E1999)The behavioral approach in personality assessment argues that personality can be acquired through observation. It put the environment accountable to personality difference among people. It assumes that we can understand other people by observing how they behave. It also argues that a response to certain stimuli molds behavior. Learning can occur though conditioning in both human and non human animals. It also assumes that all human are equal at birth. We are born a tabula rasa – empty slit – as we grow, the environmental factors molds our personality.Proponents of this approach include Skinners’ (1957) operant condition theory, Pavlov (1936) conditioning theory and Watson (1958). (Axialis Team 2008) Both the social learning and behavior al theories emphasize on observation learning to personality acquisition. They consider environmental factors that influence our personality. They also consider reinforcement and punishment an important factor in learning. However, social learning theory argues that learning is possible without necessarily changing the behavior. This contrast the behavioral approach that argues that learning must be represented by a permanent change in behavior. Social learning assumes people can learn through observation alone and which might not affect their performance thus may not or may impact behavior change. This contrasts the behavioral approach which assumes learning must involve a permanent change in behavior as well conditioning necessity in learning. Modeling, imitation and observation cannot be assumed in behavioral acquisition. Environmental factors too are very important in personality assessment. These two approaches consider this. They both make a step to explain broader personality t o include the animals. On the other hand, we cannot assume the thought processes, unobservable activities, biological and genetic factors in personality assessment and which they assume. Conditioning approach can be useful in explaining how we develop a habit how we model it, who influence us towards the habit and how we can stop the habit. In my early stages of life, I used to like toys very much. My parent would make sure that they bought me. Initially, my elder brother used to like them too.My parents would buy him every time he performed better in school. He would spend time with them on his free time. He motivated my love for toys. When I started going to school, my parents adopted a similar strategy in buying me toys. It was not after I destroyed one like before, but after I performed better in school. I remember I had a hard time to adapt to this. Previously I mishandled them; after all they would buy me if damaged. This time round, it was based on performance. I wasn’ t a good performer but I had to work hard to get some new toys. If I didn’t perform well, the punishment was ‘no toy’.As time went by, my performance deteriorated. My parents withdrew their reinforcement. At the long run, there were no more new toys. The old ones were not pleasant at all. I hated them. My performance currently is better but I hate toys. In the behavioral view, I observed the habit from my brother and learnt it, the environmental factors, my parent, influenced me to possess the habit of destroying them in order to be bought some new. I was reinforced to work harder to get new toys. The negative stimulus, the punishment, was not to be bought new toys. The aversive stimulus was my parent’s withdrawal of new toys when my performance decreased. I later stopped liking toys a result of the negative reinforcement. In the social learning view, I learnt the habit from observing my brother; he used his free time well. My brother was my role model. I p aid attention to his habit, I rehearsed and was able to replicate the way he handled and treated the toys. However, my parent motivated me by realizing my habit and therefore bought me some more toys. I did not permanently adapt the behavior implying that learning does not necessarily change behavior.Social learning approach best describes my personality I was able to observe, pay attention, rehearse and replicate my brother’s behavior thus influencing my personality. I was able to regulate myself in settling my goals, observe and make my own judgment and choose my reaction from my parent’s move towards my habit. These theories explore the complexity of human nature. Whichever dimension they take as long as it explain personality assessment, is worth credential. However, if these approaches are merged they would have a better explanation to personality assessment.

Unfair Ism Or Racism - 946 Words

Unfair-ism or Racism? Racism has always been present in the united states since the colonial era or rather said the slave era. In another words African-American at that time were treated unfairly because at that time they were not valuable as a human beings. In the essay ‘’Graduation’’ by Maya Angelou and ‘’Notes of a native son’’ by James Baldwin, One can see how racism and unfairness were present in the society at that time. In ‘’Notes of a native son’’ by James baldwin starts off by saying how his father’s funeral was on his 19th birthday and the affected relationship that he had with him. Once his father died he realized that he never spoke to his father and this reminds me of the saying that my mother always says ‘’we don t know the worth of the water until the well runs dry’’ he realized that when he could not do anything to avoid it. Baldwin couldn t understand his father’s ha tred toward white people until he witnessed himself when he was living in new jersey. but also his sister was born on his birthday and the harlem riot of 1943 occurred. We also can see how he explains his paranoia in society with white people and how black people were treated in the south and also the time he lived in new jersey. ‘’The streets were very crowded and i was facing north.
